On this Easter Sunday, we are mourning the loss of one of our own, Sue Haslam. She passed away suddenly and much too soon. She lived in our subdivision longer than any other person here. Sue devoted her life to helping others and will always be remembered for her volunteer work with the senior center and church activities. She died 3 months after her long time partner, Dennis passed away. They were both loved and will truly be missed by all who knew them. A special memorial service will be held in honor of Sue at the Methodist Church in Cloudcroft on April 25th at 10 am.
Do you know the history of The Lodge? The original structure was built in 1899 and burned to the ground in 1909, was rebuilt two years later as a larger 41,000 sq. ft. wood structure. For the first 40 years, the 9 hole golf course was the highest in elevation in North America & is one of the oldest courses in the US. Today it is the 7th highest golf course in the world. The hotel has 59 rooms, a restaurant, retail shops, a day spa, pool, & hiking trails.
The new owners, Joe & Lanna Duncan, wish to continue and preserve this historic property & gradually make upgrades. Many of the Managers who have been with the property for decades will continue their good work.
If you haven't been here in awhile, maybe it's time to revisit the Lodge.
